O'Malley settles on furlough days
The Associated Press
4:23 PM EST, December 3, 2008
Gov. Martin O'Malley has decided on the number of furlough days for state employees.
The furlough days, which will vary depending on salaries, are expected to save at least $34 million.
All state employees except emergency and essential services employees will take at least two furlough days. One will be the day after Christmas, and the other will be the day after New Year's Day.
The salary loss will be eased by spreading it out over the next seven months. Employees who make more than $40,000 a year will take an additional two furlough days for a total of four.
Employees who make more than $60,000 will take three more days, for a total of five. The furloughs are needed to help make up for a $200 million drop off in state revenues

$2.86 a gallon

my car, thanks to the turbo it has, required premium gasoline. (using anything less will make it go boom.)
so as everyone has bitched about gas, i have bitched as well since i had to use premium which was usually 20 cents to 50 cents more a gallon and i was only getting 20mpg in my car. at least it's 20mpg of fun since no matter if i baby it or drive the piss out of it i get 20mpg, so i drive the piss out of it.
today i stopped by my friendly gas station. last time i filled up gas was $3.39 a gallon. this time it was $2.86. $2.86?!?! FUCKING ROCK!
i <3 cheap gas! (and yes i realize the humor in the statement that $2.86/gallon is cheap.)

And now, the icing on the cake, he just stopped by my office asking for a job. I told him to get lost and he did. Do I have to pay him for that?

back to normal?

after a rollercoaster ride of well, everything over the last 2 years the rollercoaster i was in finally pulled into the station to let me off. a bit over a month ago my grandmother died. it's been a challenging 2 years dealing with her at times and finally that is at an end. i've been rather MIA recently dealing with everything around here, now that that's over hopefully i can get back to normal and posting things in here more often.
for all of the struggle and her seemingly wanting to drag things out forever, in the end it was very quick and painless. i'm still dealing with being there when she passed, that's something i would have preferred to miss and maybe i should have left the room but i didn't. that's resulted in some sleepless nights since it's just so weird. i've never seen anyone die. i've never held anyone as they died. i've never touched a dead person.
hopefully i'll never have to do any of the above again. at least not for a while.

RIP XBox360...

My Xbox 360 had been working just great until one day when the music became stuck on a loop halfway though a race in Forza 2. "No problem, I'll just mute the TV" I thought. I finished the race and started on another when it locked up. Doh! I reset it and kept going on my merry way.
Then a few days later I started to load Forza 2 and at the splash screen it locked up. WTF? Turned it off and back on and got weird graphics. This isn't good. Tried again and all I got was a checkerboard pattern. The final time there it was, the infamous 3 blinking red lights of doom. :(
I was pissed since I thought all my gaming progress was ruined and gone, but then I remembered that the Xbox360 HD is external and removable. YAY! So at least I won't have to spend OMG hours replaying all my games to get 75% finished only to not be able to get to the next level and realize that I fail at gaming.
At least M$ extended the warranty to 3 years and they are paying for everything. The downside is that I'm without a 360 for 2-3 weeks or more and a coworker sent me a link about Wal-Mart's $100 gift card w/ the purchase of a Blu-Ray player, and the PS3 counts.
Must... fight... urge... to... buy... PS3!!

Hi Kevin,
I apologize for the delay but as you may have noticed, I work odd hours under hectic conditions.
No doubt you are feeling a bit vexed about your situation. You've done all the right things and yet Wm Morris isn't beating down your door.
All I can say is don't give up. There's more than one agency in LA where a standout young brother like you can shine.
In the meantime Katz is lucky to have you. Just make sure you don't sell them short while you pursue bigger fish. Who knows? Maybe this is exactly where you're supposed to be right now.
Keep knocking on doors and pursuing your dream. Wm Morris Co. may come to regret they didn't snatch you up when they had the chance.
Keep the faith!
B

I've been laughing my ass off too much at this e-mail to respond back to her that she got the wrong address.

so this morning i check the status of where fedex has misplaced my macbook. it went from shanghai to anchorage and then seemed to sit. i was happy to see it got to the fedex depot a few miles from my house by 7:24am this morning. nice but that means it missed the truck and i'll get it tomorrow. GRUMBLE.
9:06am the doorbell rings. it's fedex. it's my laptop. yay! now i dont hate fedex as much as i used to. but they can still die in a fire.
get into work and turn it on. it's nice. got a copy of photoshop and lightroom so i can take my photo editing to the next level. now i just need to figure out how to use them.
macs are a lot different then pcs. in some ways it's easy as shit, other things i'm like "why would ANYONE ever do this?" i guess i need to experiment with it a bit. i like iPhoto for looking at and sorting photos but it dumps all the photos into some weird database i think. i just want to be able to access my photos individually so i can photoshop or whatever the hell else i want to with them!!!
im sure i can fix it, will just take some work to learn how macs work. i'm such a n00b!
in the mean time:

a sign my fellow mac fanboy coworker made for me:
